Industrial Hygienist

Industrial Hygienist
Duties and Responsibilities:
            Industrial hygienists look at different health issues, conduct assessments, manage industrial or business health programs, and provide consultation. Many work for public purposes or private practices. Industrial hygienists often:
  • ·        Collect samples and perform laboratory analyses.
  • ·        Check worker exposure to radiation, vibrations, and noise.
  • ·        Calibrate equipment.
  • ·        Investigate possible health hazards.
  • ·        Conduct epidemiological research.
  • ·        Instruct employees on injury prevention techniques.

Average Salary: $40,000 - $60,000

Educational Requirements:
            Students should take challenging college prep class mainly in math and science during high school.
            Requires at least a Bachelor’s Degree in occupational health and safety, environmental engineering, or the physical sciences. Many jobs require certification or a Master's Degree in these, or related, fields.  Certification requires successful completion of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene examination.

I do not believe I would to be an Industrial Hygienist because I would not like to do analysis on different types of illness.
